New GODSMACK Single Roars Onto Rock Songs Radio Airplay Chart
February 17, 2010According to Billboard.com, GODSMACK continues to build anticipation for its fifth studio album, "The Oracle", due May 4, as "Cryin' Like a Bitch" roars onto the Rock Songs radio airplay chart at No. 22. The song begins with 4.3 million first-week audience impressions on 92 stations.
The cut is the second preview track from the album to assault the survey. "Whiskey Hangover" reached No. 7 in August.
"Cryin' Like a Bitch" concurrently storms Mainstream Rock at No. 15 and Alternative Songs at No. 39.
According to HardDrive Radio, GODSMACK frontman Sully Erna intended the song as a slam on MÖTLEY CRÜE bassist Nikki Sixx, although that has yet to be officially confirmed by anyone in the GODSMACK camp.
Erna's feelings about Sixx may go back to last summer's Crüe Fest 2 tour, on which GODSMACK appeared alongside headliners MÖTLEY CRÜE. Erna told Artisan News Service at the time, "There's definitely been some rock-star garbage on this tour that we just have never seen in our career . . . this was the first time that I felt like, 'You know what?! If there's gonna be some people that are gonna treat other people a certain way, then I'm gonna go out there every night and . . . make sure that we make you look old and fat, and go home with a nice big fat paycheck."
Samples of some of the lyrics on "Cryin' Like A Bitch" include lines like: "Strut on by like a king/Telling everybody they know nothing/Long lived what you thought you were/Time ain't on your side anymore"
The new GODSMACK CD follows up 2006's "IV" and a nearly two-year hiatus that ended last summer when GODSMACK joined the Crüe Fest 2 tour.
